North West Ipswich Big Local Trust

nwibltThe North West Ipswich Big Local Trust (BLT) has been awarded up to £1million by the Big Lottery Fund, over a ten year period (2012 to 2022).  The BLT area covers the wards of Whitton, Whitehouse and part of Castle Hill in Ipswich. The funding will be invested into the local area, to support local projects and activities.

The BLT has a unique approach to decision making because all of the decisions taken about how the funding is used are made by 22 local Resident Representatives – people who actually live in the NW Ipswich area. They are supported by 16 Advisory Members, who come from a range of statutory agencies and voluntary sector organisations, who support the residents in their decision making. Together they have formed the BLT Partnership, which guides the work of the project.

The BLT also has two Grant Funding Programmes to which local groups and organisations can apply for funding:

The Community Chest, which can support grant applications up to £500.
The Grant Award Scheme, which invites applications between £501 to £5000 (with no match funding requirement), or £5001 to £10,000 (with a 5% match funding requirement).

The BLT has its own website, on which you can find much more information about the project, including:

  • A defined map of the BLT area
  • The Big Local Plan, which sets out our aims and priorities for action
  • Application Forms and Guidance Notes for both the Community Chest and Grants Awards Scheme
  • Details of the BLT Partnership and the way we work
  • Information on how to become involved with the BLT
