framlingham furniture project December 2014The Framlingham and District Furniture Project, run by Community Action Suffolk since 2013, will close its doors on Friday 16 September 2016 when the five years of BIG Lottery funding comes to an end.

The project, which accepts donations of unwanted furniture and household items to pass on to families in need, has recognised that its service has become less needed in recent times.

Chris Abraham, Director of Community Services at CAS, said:

“People are recycling their household items in a number of different ways these days. Online services such as Freecycle, Gumtree and Facebook, and more locally Greener Fram with their Swap and Mend scheme, all make it easy for people to exchange goods at little or no cost.

“CAS has made several enquiries to divest the project to another organisation without success. With the reduced demand for the service and after much consideration, we feel it is appropriate to close the project. We’d like to thank all the staff, volunteers and local residents who have made it a success in recent years.”

The project, located on Victoria Mill Road, will no longer be accepting donations from Monday 15 August 2016 and the final day for sales will be Friday 16 September 2016.

If you have unwanted household goods beyond these dates, there are a number of other furniture projects in Suffolk who may be able to accept them. Suffolk Coastal Norse offers a collection service for bulky items, other items can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centres in Leiston or Foxhall.
