The application process opens today (10th February 2014) to become a Member of Youth Parliament for Suffolk, with applications closing on 2nd March 2014.
Run by young people, the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) provides unique opportunities for 11-18 year-olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change. Be a part of a national organisation that represents ALL young people and helps them to have their say! Create and work on your own campaigns: things you are passionate about and endeavour to resolve the issues faced by young people in Suffolk.
Being a part of Suffolk UKYP is guaranteed to change your life by learning new skills such as public speaking and confidence, you can also change the lives of the young people in your local area, and even nationally by campaigning on the issues young people have brought to you. Young people are 20% of the population, but you are 100% the future: work with us to make the future brighter for all young people by making the changes they want to see.
One of Suffolk’s current MYPs says, “Being an MYP is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Before joining UKYP, I never had a clue what ‘being the voice of young people’ meant, but two years down the line, I now love representing the thoughts and ideas of young people in my area! I have also had the opportunity to sit in the House of Commons and debate alongside all the other members of UKYP and attend a scrutiny group meeting on behalf people with disabilities. I would recommend any young person to take up this role because not only would they enjoy it, they would make new friends along the way and they would meet some pretty important people too.”
