I’ve created a list of all our favourite computer tips and tricks that help to increase productivity at work. These can range from keyboard shortucts to little pieces of software that help you with day to day things.
1. Bring back that tab you accidentally closed
Accidentally close a internet browser tab you actually really needed? You can bring the tab back with this nifty computer trick.
Simply press CTRL + SHIFT + T on your keyboard to bring your previously closed tab back.
2. Undo anything, anywhere
One of our favourite computer tips is being able to ‘undo’ pretty much anything, anywhere!
On your keyboard, press CTRL + Z to undo your latest action. You can undo all kinds of actions, from the last thing you typed to that important file you accidentally just deleted!
You can even redo your undo by pressing CTRL + Y!
3. Lock your computer quickly
This one is useful for Cyber Security purposes.
Learn to lock your computer in flash using only your keyboard. Just press WIN + L and your computer will be locked up, safe from prying eyes.
4. Minimise all your windows
Fed up of having to minimise each of your open Windows one by one? If you need all your windows to go away all at once, you can minimise them all in one go with this sneaky computer trick.
Press WIN + D and you’ll be back to your empty desktop in no time. Just press WIN + D again to restore all those minimised windows.
5. Use the Snipping Tool
Taking screenshots can be a great way of evidencing elements for your work. If you want to take a screenshot of a specific area on your screen, you can use your keyboard to open the Snipping Tool, primed and ready to select an area of your screen.
Press WIN + SHIFT + S to begin snipping away! When you’ve snipped your screenshot, you can open it in the Snipping Tool window which will automatically open to save, copy or edit it.
6. Easily repeat your last command in Excel.
If you press the F4 button in Excel, it repeats the last command.
If you select a cell and highlight it yellow, you can then highlight any other selected cell(s) yellow by pressing F4.
7. Schedule Emails to be Sent Later in Microsoft Outlook
Have you ever wanted to schedule an email to be delivered later?
In Outlook, when you open a new email, click “Options” at the top and click “Delay Delivery.” Under delivery options, you can choose the date/time next to “Do not deliver before.”
Please note, Outlook needs to be open for this to work.
8. Reboot
Now this may be a cliche and the source of some amusement – but a good Reboot of your device is a great way to resolve issues.
It’s surprising the percentage of issues that can be resolved by a simple reboot – or as we say in the trade – switch it off and on again!
