Community Action Suffolk announces new Chair of its Trustee Board

Stephen Javes - CAS Chair of Trustee Board
Stephen Javes

Community Action Suffolk (CAS) is delighted to announce that Stephen Javes has become the new Chair of its Trustee Board.

Stephen succeeds Alex Skailes, who stepped down after three years as Chair. The new CAS Trustee Board, which formally commenced on 1 April 2016, consists of Stephen Javes (Chair), Helen Greengrass, John Shaw, Dr. Jan Sheldon, Alex Skailes, Graham Watson and Julie West.

Stephen is currently the Chief Executive for Orwell Housing Association, which provides homes for over 7,500 throughout Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. He is also Chairman of Eastern Procurement Limited and the SNAP consortium, as well as being a member of the Suffolk Strategic Housing Partnership and the East Suffolk Partnership Board. Having also sat on the boards of a number of voluntary and community sector organisations over the years, Stephen brings much experience to CAS, but is also aware of the challenges facing the sector:

“The voluntary and community sector continues to face diminishing financial support from the public sector, against a background of ever greater need. But I look forward to offering leadership, clear strategic direction and doing business with a smile.

Throughout my career I have always looked to put something back into the community through community based organisations and the timing of the approach to take over as Chair of the Community Action Suffolk Trustee Board came at an ideal moment.

Suffolk is my home and is a wonderful county, delivering great cultural opportunities, as well as beautiful countryside and beaches; it is just a great place to live.”

Stephen is joined on the Board by new trustee Julie West, who is currently Growth Programme Coordinator with New Anglia, the Local Enterprise Partnership for Norfolk and Suffolk.

CAS would like to thank Alex Skailes for her commitment as inaugural Chair of the Trustee Board, guiding the trustees and helping the organisation to develop in its first three years. CAS is delighted that Alex has chosen to remain as a trustee.
