The history of the Orwell Walk & Cycle

The Orwell Walk & more recently the Orwell Cycle too is organised each year by Ipswich East Rotary Club. The first Orwell Walk was held in 1977. In that year, 223 walkers took part in the event. The event has grown to such an extent that we’ve experienced as many as 2000 people taking part. The Walk still follows much the same route along some of the lesser known areas along the River Orwell towards Felixstowe, although there are occasionally route changes when farming, land usage or tidal variations dictate. Three years ago Ipswich East Rotary Club added a whole new dimension – the Orwell Cycle!! With the help of our Rotary Associate members we have created three separate cycle routes, separate from the walkers. For the walkers there are three difference distances making it suitable for casual walkers, families and those who are regular walkers.

* Registration Fee is just £15.00 per entrant.
