Members of UK Youth Parliament for Suffolk working hard on their campaigns

UKYP

Members of the UK Youth Parliament for Suffolk have been busy working on their campaigns over the last few months.

They have been completing mapping local services as part of the National Mental Health Campaign as well as working on the campaigns for their local areas.

Recent highlights include:

  • Toby Jefferys MYP for Bury St Edmunds being on the radio to talk about lowering the voting age and meeting an MP in regard to his anti-smoking campaign
  • Waveney MYP and DMYP, Nathan and Jed, have had a very successful meeting with Peter Aldous MP who has committed to supporting them, to promote “Make Your Mark” and run a regular surgery with them at Lowestoft Sixth Form College. Jed is also conducting a survey for Abellio Greater Anglia as part of a consultation on reducing the cost of train travel for young people
  • Four young people attended the UKYP Annual Sitting where they voted on campaigns to add the UKYP manifesto
  • The Make Your Mark Campaign is now live and we are aiming to get between 10,000 to 15,000 young people in Suffolk to vote.

make your mark
Make Your Mark

Make Your Mark‘ is a UK-wide ballot which gives young people aged 11-18 the chance to decide what the Members of Youth Parliament should debate and vote on, to form their campaign for the year ahead. They will do this during their sitting in the House of Commons in November.

The Suffolk Members of Youth Parliament are working hard to get as many young people in the county as possible to vote. If your organisation would like to get involved please contact your local MYP, their details can be found here.
