Suffolk event organisers: Could our team of 350+ event volunteers help you?

With the Sochi Winter Olympics coming to an impressive close and the Winter Paralympics, Glasgow 2014 and the FIFA World Cup on their way, it’s guaranteed to be another great year for sport and culture.

With this in mind, there couldn’t be a better time for event organisers across Suffolk to generate interest in their events and get volunteers onboard. The Community Action Suffolk Sport & Event Volunteering Project enables this to happen by bridging the gap between event organisers and volunteers, successfully helping them find one another!

We are proud to have over 350 brilliant volunteers who make up our County Events Team, dedicating their time to helping out at a whole host of events across the county. From fun runs to bike rides to festivals, many of these events would struggle to take place without volunteer support.

All events and roles are promoted for free on our Events Calendar and volunteers simply register online. In addition to this service, we also provide training and advice to share best practice in volunteering and build a sustainable volunteering legacy across the county.

We continue to keep in touch with over 200 Suffolk-based London 2012 Games Makers, many of whom are registered as part of our County Events Team and continue to proudly fly the flag for volunteering. One such volunteer has just finished volunteering in Sochi and several others are waiting to hear whether or not they are successful in becoming a ‘Clyde-sider’ volunteer at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer. We are looking forward to keeping track of their progress and organising meetups prior to the Games to encourage them to get to know each other and share tips and advice on finding accommodation and arranging car-shares.

There are so many enthusiastic people in Suffolk who are prepared to travel across the globe for volunteer roles, but we’re keen to highlight that you don’t need to go further afield – there are plenty of exciting opportunities on your doorstep! This project is unique to this county and if you know anyone who is involved with events in Suffolk, point them in the direction of the Sport & Event Volunteering Project!
