Volunteering is alive and well in Suffolk!

The Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Sarah Barber, presented volunteers with certificates of achievement last night (Mon 9 April) at a special Volunteer Appreciation Event at Gainsborough Community Library.

The mayor praised the community’s outstanding achievement in response to a challenge issued by the Gainsborough Community People’s Forum in 2017.

Over 3,000 hours were put in by 27 local volunteers during the year, benefiting the RSPCA, Gainsborough Community Café, the Girl Guides, Gainsborough Community Library and other local organisations. The volunteering challenge was the brainchild of Sadie Grimwood whose teenage brother Josh chalked up an impressive total of 450 hours of voluntary work.

This is just one of the many fantastic examples of volunteering in Suffolk. There are currently hundreds of opportunities listed on the Volunteer Suffolk website www.volunteersuffolk.org.uk, so if you want to give some of your time either to an ongoing activity or a one-off event, just log on and get stuck in! Take a look at our 2018 Events Calendar for some inspiring events that need help from volunteers in the next few months.
