After an incredibly difficult two years the Suffolk Community Awards are to return in 2022.
The awards both celebrate and recognise the significant contributions that groups, individuals and town and parish councils make to the overall quality of life in communities across the length and breadth of Suffolk.
Christine Abraham, Chief Executive of Community Action Suffolk, said “At the heart of vibrant and thriving communities are the people that give their time and support. The CAS awards celebrate and recognise those “who go the extra mile” and make positive contributions to their community. We are delighted to be recognising many unsung heroes in Suffolk – volunteers, young people and those helping in the community who make such a difference to people’s lives.”
The unique partnership between Community Action Suffolk, Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Association of Local Councils was formed in 2019 and brought these awards together into a single event.
Sally Longmate, Chief Executive of the Suffolk Association of Local Councils, said: “after an incredibly challenging period we are looking forward to celebrating some of the fantastic outcomes for people and communities as a result of the work of outstanding individuals, groups and organisations. It provides the opportunity to put a spotlight on the work of town and parish councils and showcase their democratic role at the grass roots, be it as service providers, partners or enablers.”
There are 15 awards available ranging from youth participation and young person of the year to community building, contribution to volunteering, most active communities, good neighbours and village and town of the year.

The Awards will be presented on the 20th September at the Museum of Food, Stowmarket.
Cllr Bobby Bennett, Cabinet Member for Equality and Communities at Suffolk County Council, said about the Most Active Town and Village awards: “These awards are about publicly recognising and celebrating the work that town and parish councils do to keep their communities fit and active. Sport and physical activity is so important in helping to build stronger, healthier, happier and more resilient communities and town and parish councils are hugely important providers of physical activity facilities and opportunities at a local level. Whether providing playgrounds, sports halls, open space, football pitches, allotments, walking routes, fitness classes or special events, the scope and variety of provision is large and varied and vital in enabling people to be active close to home.”
