Could you help Lowestoft once year? Event on 29 June 2017

Volunteers at the Great East Swim – June 2017

Lowestoft residents are invited to drop in to Lowestoft Library on Thursday 29 June 2017, to find out how they can give a few hours of their time every year to make a difference to the town.

Most local events could not happen without volunteers, many just give a few hours every year without having to make a regular commitment. Summer events such as the EACH Colour Dash, the Lowestoft Summer Festival or Lowestoft Half Marathon rely on teams of volunteers to make them a success.

Jo Quigley, V-Event Officer at Community Action Suffolk, works with event organisers to help them find volunteers:

“Being a volunteer is a hugely rewarding experience, but it doesn’t mean you have to commit regular hours every week. If you just wanted to give one morning a year of your time, that is perfect!

“We all lead busy lives and it can be hard to find the time to support local causes and charities. The V-Event project offers people the chance to do some one-off volunteering at events on your doorstep. Our volunteers tells us that this works really well for them, they get to met new people, learn new skills and give something back to their town or community.

“We even have families volunteering together, there are usually roles for the little ones too. We recently had children and their parents handing out goodie bags at the Great East Swim!”

To find out more about volunteering at local events, visit Jo in Lowestoft Library on Thursday 29 June 2017 between 9:30am and 4pm. Alternatively visit www.volunteersuffolk.org.uk/v-event.
