(23rd February 2015) As a follow-up to our busy Funding Fair in January, 16 Ipswich VCS group representatives came together today at our first Locality Networking Event in the borough this year, facilitated by our local Community Field Officer, Kirsty Wilmot.
The session kicked off with a collective sharing of successes in 2014, which highlighted some excellent outcomes, as well as some new challenges.
Some short taster talks presented the group with useful information to take back to their service users and colleagues, on accessible transport options across the town and county, as well as what the Talent Match programme in Ipswich can offer; from mentoring and work experience to longer-term paid work placements for unemployed young people.
These were followed by an information session on funding, including a case study on the Oak Tree Low Carbon Farm on the edge of Ipswich, which has had a number of recent successes in securing funding bids. A round-up of funding streams currently open was also presented, along with some valuable hints and tips from our Rural and Communities manager Jo Whiting, who has 10 years of experience in fundraising within the sector to share.
Finally the group was introduced to the popular Grantfinder database, which CAS member organisations can make use of to kick-start their funding searches. With so many groups reporting funding cuts today, we hope the continued support from Community Action Suffolk will help them make headway on filling their shortfalls.
