Community Action Suffolk invites businesses and voluntary organisations to attend its Suffolk Volunteering Conference on Thursday 17 May 2018 at BT’s Adastral Park.
The event, supported by BT, is a series of talks and workshops giving attendees an insight into how their business or organisation can benefit from Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV).
The event will bring together Suffolk’s businesses and voluntary organisations to learn from each other and form mutually beneficial relationships. There will be a combination of presentations and practical workshops to demonstrate the value of ESV to Suffolk’s business community. ESV allows employees to pursue volunteering opportunities during work time. The practice gives businesses the opportunity to invest in communities and become more socially responsible, whilst developing staff skills and experience.
Lisa Perkins, Director Strategic Research and Innovation at BT will begin the conference with her talk on ESV at BT, showcasing how volunteering operates within a national business. Local businesses across various sectors will be talking about their experiences and offering workshops to event delegates too.
Prettys Solicitors, based in Ipswich, will shed light on understanding the legal considerations for a company when providing voluntary services. Whilst Sudbury’s Mackman will share the experience of providing marketing services to local charities and run a workshop on finding the right charity for your brand.
Paul White, Volunteering Manager at Community Action Suffolk, said: “This year’s Suffolk Volunteering Conference is the first of its kind, as we are actively inviting local businesses to join Suffolk’s voluntary sector. The conference will show how employers can reap many benefits by allowing their employees to volunteer with local projects. Local organisations benefit from the extra pairs of hands, the employees gain new experiences, and employers have a more engaged and satisfied team.”
The conference will demonstrate how ESV can enable and inspire staff to volunteer, improve staff recruitment and retention, and help with their professional development by growing valuable skills. ESV empowers businesses to make a real impact in their local community, evidences commitment to social responsibility and raises brand profiles.
