Volunteering network meetings bringing communities together

Following on from industrious Volunteering Network meetings in Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury, a further meeting of voluntary and community sector groups in March was organised in Newmarket to explore “What Makes A Good Volunteer Role Description?”

Facilitated by our local Volunteering Field Officer, Glenn Hubbard, the meeting started with group introductions, an update and discussion regarding the national volunteer database ‘Do-It’.

The groups then discussed in pairs some real, but anonymous role descriptions and explained what they felt was unappealing about these and therefore avoid such pitfalls themselves!

Feedback on the session was universally positive, with a desire from attendees to meet and continue the discussions with each other, beyond this meeting. We’re delighted to provide such a platform to allow organisations and communities to connect with each other.

“Dear Glenn, thank you so much for your time and energy last week. I enjoyed the meeting and it was beneficial to meet local groups and to hear the sorts of things they encounter with their volunteers. We have been granted an amount of money from the European Union to deliver a volunteering/routes to employment programme and the advice on how to construct an advert were completely relevant and I was able to put them into practice. So thanks!”

Our next Volunteering Network meeting in West Suffolk is on Wednesday 8th April in Bury St. Edmunds, and you can book your place online below.
